Banana pudding matcha latte
If you’ve been on TikTok lately, you’ve probably seen the Banana Pudding Matcha Latte making the rounds.

At first, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it… but after one sip, I totally got the hype.
The creamy banana pudding paired with earthy matcha is such an unexpected combo, and somehow it just works. Of course, I had to make a healthier version using a high-protein banana pudding made with cottage cheese, vanilla protein powder, and a better-for-you banana pudding mix.
It’s creamy, nostalgic, packed with protein, and honestly feels like you’re drinking dessert.

- 2½ tablespoons Simply Dessert Banana Pudding Mix
- 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup or sugar-free syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ banana (optional)
- 1–2 tablespoons milk of choice, if needed for blending. Blend before adding, you don’t want the mixture to be runny.
Optional Toppings
- Crushed vanilla wafers
- Banana slices
- Whipped topping
- Optional: crushed vanilla wafers mixed with a little melted butter for a “pie crust” topping
Matcha Latte
- 2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha
- ¼ cup 187°F water
- Milk of choice
- Ice
Optional: 1–2 teaspoons maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter matcha.
Instructions
Make the Banana Pudding
Add the cottage cheese to a blender and blend until completely smooth.
Add the protein powder, banana pudding mix, maple syrup, vanilla extract, banana (if using), and milk. Blend again until thick, creamy, and smooth.
Transfer to a bowl and refrigerate for about 15 minutes to thicken (overnight is best).
For an even fluffier texture, gently fold in whipped topping before serving.
Make the Matcha
Whisk the matcha with the hot water until completely smooth and frothy.
Fill a glass with ice and your milk of choice.
Pour the prepared matcha over the milk.
Assemble
Top the latte with one or two generous scoops of the banana pudding.
Finish with banana slices, crushed vanilla wafers, whipped topping, or all three if you’re feeling extra.
Stir everything together and enjoy!
Tips
- Ceremonial grade matcha gives the smoothest flavor.
- I don’t sweeten the matcha because the banana pudding adds plenty of sweetness.
- The banana pudding keeps well in the fridge, so you can enjoy it for breakfast, snacks, or another latte later in the week.
- If you love Magnolia Bakery’s banana pudding, adding the crushed wafers on top is a must.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make the banana pudding ahead of time?
Yes! I actually prefer the banana pudding after it’s been refrigerates overnight. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Can I skip the protein powder?
No, this is was helps thicken the banana pudding. You can try more pudding mixture if needed but I haven’t tried it yet.
Can I use Greek yogurt instead of cottage cheese?
You can! Cottage cheese gives it the creamiest texture and the biggest protein boost, but thick Greek yogurt works well too.
